Volver

Current films I have recently seen and love. Two featuring Penelope Cruz. I really loved Pearl Diver and glad I decided to pick it up. I am working my butt off, even with the pain. I have another appt for next month. I shot each month to clear up the endemetriosis. As painful as it is, I am determined to work my butt off. It has been frustrating... or even so with medication that helps me get myself to work. I never want to end up just giving up and curling up in a ball and feeling sorry for myself. I see so many with much bigger struggles, and they maintain a peace, grace and ease about them... One is a dear friend with cancer, a brain tumor..and goes through chemo and a wonderful example of someone who is positive, filled with a lot of love and manages to get himself to work and see the goodness around him.. Rather than the victim mentality is hard to be around.. you see how truly spoiled and selfish we can be. Shifting your attention on gratitude... that which you do have.. than that which you don't. Work has been trying, lifting my one leg up just to get in the car.. taking pain meds.. its only temporary for another 5 months.. but something amazing and fulfilling has come with it, a strength i found in myself and moving forward than giving in. Many are angry or frustrated about this or that. It's everywhere you look these days...and i think the one thing we all come to realize is that there comes a point of letting go of blame, anger and where does that get you? it can be too exhausting...instead all you can do is take accountability for yourself, love yourself and do your best to love others even if they are not capable or able to be in that space themselves.

Exhibit on Friday.

It's been a crazy week! I discovered that shipping paintings to Japan, UK, Switzerland, Norway and Spain are so much easier to do, then say sending to clients in Canada. Most of it is of course new policies in shipping.

How did it get to be September so fast? New exhibits i recently booked for October and November. More later on those. October will be at the Box Office Gallery...which is a fun space.

I have to get the rest of the paintings finished and then have them hanged on Thursday! I'm still scrambling about figuring out which to hang. Last minute opening reception placements and goodies. I have five primary ones. One wall will be a whole different feel of smaller pieces. I have a couple days off to get these finished, framed and up in time. I havent really had to do much with flyers since Tamarisk, the curator always handles all the pr, publicity.

I am so excited fall is approaching. It will be down to the 80s in the next couple days which is such a relief and autum for those of us who live in Sin City. Already my husband baking some homemade pies with the mixer I got him last Christmas. He also has culinary pieces to use for pastas and pasteries he has from his friend who is a chef, and had his own restaraunts in France and Switzerland. Fall/Winter baking is the best. And even more romantic, now that we are in a house and can decorate more for the holiday seasons approaching.

Above is a picture of this tee shirt my friend Elena gave me. Elena left KA to work on a new show in Hawaii. Of all places! And she had these two really cute/funny tee shirts. This one i love so much, i wear constantly to yoga.

Upcoming exhibits at Blue Sky Yoga in the arts district will feature the sumi e japanese scrolls and the lovely treats of delightful chocolates. We found a wonderful chocolatier, Vosges. www.vosgeschocolates.com.

Of course... Lu Lu Lemon. Which has many celebrations, get togethers with our yoga studio. www.lululemon.com.

Working. Painting. Working.

Little by little more new works for the next show. Even if it means locking myself up in my painting room, listening to musical, twirling about in my chair, and staring at canvas on each wall.. and forcing myself to get to it. I watched the film Klimt, last night. With John Malkovich. It was okay.. however, it made me even more intrigued with Scheile. That is about all. Just working, painting, and pushing ahead the best I can.

Heroes

So, the paintings arrived at NBC and received paperwork, contract agreement for use of my artwork on the series "Heroes". Very excited! Just so happens, new season, airdates on my birthhday, Sept. 22. I will make sure to update on what episode/scene a painting is used.

I am up late after a very long nap, and in my space at the new house surrounded by paintings waiting to be finished for the exhibit for Sept at the Epicenter Gallery. So far, I have a pretty good idea of layout and which genres of work will be put up. I think one wall will be the small shodo zen bamboo paintings.. the other wall will be the large canvas of "Boys". A new series worked on with materials I never used before. Very raw. A contrast to the fluidity, movement of the sumi e paintings. I love this particular gallery and space. In fact, it feels like my home gallery because it was the first I ever exhibted at here in Vegas.

I have been asked to come into a high school art class by a friend who is teaching art. To talk to the students about art and 'being an artist'. That will be fun, and actually funny because I drove my high school art teacher crazy. All I wanted to paint was women and dogs..and just never finished other pieces. Mrs. Tabler who still teaches back in Cleveland. Everytime i heard i should take my art seriously and was talented made me not want to even more... and would get Fs on projects because I just didnt give a ()*&. Little did I realize then, that having to do a painting of a brand, like Tide, in high school.. which I loathed.. 30 some years later I design a logo for MGM. I think I will share that with them and also about a great story Sandy Hackett told me.. his father (Buddy Hackett) used a beautiful analogy about creating.. Picasso.. and his works. Even Picasso had to paint a still life. An apple. Before what we most associate to Picasso's work. Mrs. Tabler always had Pat Benatar and Rod Stewart playing in class. I better be careful what I say, I dont want the egg the students on that it's okay to "eff" up and not do your projects. I think I will tel them that my dad came in to my high school drama class to discuss theater and I sat there covering my eyes thinking "oh god, its my dad"... but i remember thinking of how amazing he was. The way he spoke to the students. Told us a neat story about Al Paccino and his craft...(which I, as his daughter never heard). My friends told me after class.. "wow, your dad is so cool". Yeah, he is.

Now, one more cup of tea, the dogs finally settled down after I woke them up...and off to bed. Back to the grind all over again tomorrow.

Upcoming Exhibits.

I have been behind posting on here. Finally feeling better after months of getting well, and a move. Off work, but managed to keep up with some shows and lots of yoga. Which has been so helpful with any stresses of money, gas prices, this or that. Just keeping at it best I can and fortunately the art is always remaining consistant and inspiration flowing... The exhibit at Blue Sky in July went well. Epicenter for August, first friday.. and preparing for a feature solo show at the Loft Gallery for September. First Friday and throughout the month. All exhibits in the arts district downtown Vegas. For more info you can email me, or visit.. www.myspace.com/robinpunsalanart.

Series for September are all a new vein of paintings. "Boys" All paintings of men. Large Oil and Pastels on cardboard. Much more edgy. In one small wall, there will be the shodo bamboo paintings. Pieces are also available for sale at The Psychic Eye of the zen shodo works. Also, finally got some paintings mailed out for the NBC series, Heroes, which a friend is set designer/decorator for. Will post if any used in upcoming scenes. Ah, and the new season premeire airs on my birthday. My husband and I really wish that our family could come out to the exhibits... as no one really has been to see any shows, even years in Nyc. My inlaws came to see some while they were touring with Champions on Ice. I know some in family can't afford it now.. I may start saving money and offer to fly them out here. It has been over 20 years of countless plays and each month more gallery exhibits. to have family there and not just hearing about it in emails and phone calls.. but seeing and experiencing. We can always come up with excuses not to do so. I hope this can one day happen.
